It helps to have an old style non-mains powered phone that will continue working in a power cut. Keep it next to the emergency candles and torches!
If you, a friend or family member are vulnerable, even temporarily, it makes sense to sign on to the Priority Services Register, as this will ensure the electricity network company takes special action during an extended incident.
